About this member:
I am an Associate Professor in English, Director of Studies and Tutor at Homerton College, where I became a Fellow in 2006. I served as the College’s Vice-Principal from 2019-2022. I was educated at the University of Bristol and the University of Cambridge. My research is concerned with the history of the emotions, and I have written several books and articles on topics relating to this field.

From 2016-2022, I was a governor at my local state primary school, where I served as chair of the governors from 2017-2020. Since 2022, I have been on the University’s Nominating Committee for External Members of Council.

I bring to Council the perspective of someone who is immersed in teaching and the provision of pastoral support and has very direct experience of the many challenges facing students right now, particularly as they relate to educational access, social and economic disadvantage, diversity and inclusion, and mental health and wellbeing. I am interested in promoting access and widening participation at all levels of the University; equality, diversity and inclusion; student and staff welfare and wellbeing; reflective and innovative education practices; and adapting governance structures, systems and processes to maximise transparency, efficacy and fairness.
