Professor Andrew Wathey CBE was Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University from 2008 to 2022, and previously Senior Vice-Principal and Professor of Music History at Royal Holloway University of London. Since 2022 he has been Chair of the Board of The National Archives. Andrew is a graduate of the University of Oxford, where he also took his doctorate in Music. He has held posts in the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge (where he was a Research Fellow at Downing College), and Lancaster. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and of the Society of Antiquaries.
Andrew chaired the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment from 2016 to 2022, and is a Non-Executive Director of the Student Loans Company. He was appointed a CBE in 2016 for services to Higher Education.
