Overview
The UAS provides core administrative services to the University. The scope of the work carried out by UAS teams and sections is wide-ranging and essential to the smooth running of the University.
The UAS is a body under the supervision of the University Council and is led by the Registrary as the University's Principal Administrative Officer. The current Registrary is Emma Rampton.
The UAS consists of a number of divisions:
Academic Division
Estates Division
Finance Division
Governance and Compliance Division
Health, Safety, and Regulated Facilities Division
Human Resources Division
Legal Services Division
Administrative staff within a number of these divisions, especially the Academic Division and Finance Division, are often physically located in Schools, Faculties and Departments, and are fully involved in their day-to-day operation.
The divisions of the UAS

The Academic Division undertakes various aspects of the University's academic administration, including providing information to prospective students, overseeing educational policy, organizing examinations and maintaining student records.
The Academic Division is divided into the following offices:
Student Registry: this section maintains the University’s student records,
and carries out associated activities for students and staff.
Cambridge Admissions Office: this is the central enquiry point for all
prospective undergraduate students and the focal point for widening access
initiatives.
Education Quality and Policy: this section is responsible for quality
assurance, enhancement of teaching and learning, and student health and
wellbeing.
Planning and Resource Allocation Office: this office is responsible for
strategic and academic planning.
Strategic Partnerships Office: this office provides
central administrative support for the University’s international
collaborations.
Research Operations Office: this office advises and assists academic and support staff with the securing and administration of externally funded research.
Office for Student Conduct, Complaints, and Appeals: this office provides procedural advice, case handling and oversight of a number of student procedures, including: complaints, the review of examination results, and fitness for practise. It also acts as the contact point for the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).
The Academic Secretary is Michael Glover.

Estates Division is responsible for the development, management and maintenance of the University estate. The division’s responsibilities include: planning and managing the University’s estate development programme; project managing new build construction and refurbishing existing stock; maintaining the University’s teaching, research, and administrative buildings; and promoting the University’s environmental sustainability initiative.
The Director of Estates is Graham Matthews.
The Finance Division promotes the effective use of Cambridge's financial resources by providing professional advice across the University, and establishing standards of good practice in accounting, reporting, financial planning, purchasing and services. The Division supplies financial information to the Council and other bodies to enable them to make informed decisions. It also ensures the University’s financial compliance with the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and other funding bodies, in addition to preparing the University's annual statutory financial statements.
The Director of Finance is David Hughes.

The Health, Safety, and Regulated Facilities Division provides central resource to assist in the management of health and safety across the University, through the provision of guidance, training and audit. The Division also manages the University's facilities for animal research.
The Director of the Health, Safety, and Regulated Facilities Division is Martin Vinnell.

The Human Resources Division deals with all aspects of HR management for more than 9,800 staff employed by the University. This includes developing appropriate personnel policies and procedures, providing appropriate support and specialist advice, preparing contracts, maintaining staff records and staff-based statistics, and meeting temporary staff needs.
The Human Resources Division also includes the Occupational Health and Safety Service, Counselling, Dentistry, Pensions, Childcare Office, Centre for Personal and Professional Development, and Equality and Diversity.
The Director of Human Resources is Andrea Hudson.
The Governance and Compliance Division fulfils a range of functions includingncludes the following offices:

- administrative support services to the University Council, its committees, and policies;
production of Statutes and Ordinances and the Reporter, by the University Draftsman’s Office;
maintenance of the Roll of the Regent House;
information compliance, including data protection and freedom of information;
audit and regulatory compliance.
The Head of the Governance and Compliance Division is Regina Sachers.
Office of External Affairs and Communications: this office sits within the Governance and Compliance division and manages the University’s global reputation and its communications worldwide. The Director of External Affairs and Communications is
James Helm.
The Legal Services Division deals with a wide range of legal matters on
behalf of the University. It works closely with specialist teams around the University, advising on policies and procedures as well as on specific legal matters.
The Head of Legal Services is David Parsons.
Other offices
Vice-Chancellor’s Office: the Acting Vice-Chancellor (Anthony Freeling) is the principal academic and administrative officer of the University; the staff within this office support him and his work. The Investment Office is included as part of the VCO. The Head of the Vice-Chancellor's Office is Ángel Gurría-Quintana.
Pro-Vice-Chancellors' Office: there are currently five Pro-Vice-Chancellors who support the Vice-Chancellor in providing academic leadership to the University, and work with senior administrators to help drive strategy and development. The Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor is Andy Neely.
The University Sports Service supports the provision of sport across the University and manages the University's sports facilities. The Director of Sport reports to the Registrary. The Director of Sport is Nick Brooking.
