About the HR Committee and meeting dates

The Human Resources Committee was established as a joint committee of the Council and the General Board in April 2000 in order to provide a more strategic and coherent approach to personnel management. It replaced the separate committees that had previously dealt with academic and related staff and assistant staff.

The Committee meets six times a year. The meeting dates for 2023-24 are:

The duties and responsibilities of the HR Committee are as follows:  

1.     to recommend to the Council and the General Board, as appropriate, HR strategies, policies and procedures required to meet the University’s institutional requirements, having particular regard to the University’s mission statement, and to fulfil its statutory obligations;
2.     to review from time to time the effectiveness of such strategies, policies and procedures;
3.     to discharge such duties as required of it under those strategies, policies and procedures;
4.     to refer to the Planning and Resources Committee, or other competent body, any proposals that have substantial resource implications;
5.     to receive from the Remuneration Committee of the Council matters relating to reward policy and to consult with that Committee on the impact of any relevant changes in policy and practice;
6.     to receive regularly statistics on the staff employed by the University and persons applying for employment at and leaving the employment of the University;
7.     to determine the arrangements for employee relations, staff development and training and equality and diversity in respect of staff; and
8.     to consult the Colleges through the Colleges Committee over matters of mutual concern relating to the terms and conditions of employment of staff.
