About the Joint Committee on Development

The Joint Committee on Development is a joint Committee of the University Council and the Colleges tasked with facilitating communication and collaboration between the two with regards to fundraising and development activities. The Committee works closely with Cambridge in America (CAm) and its membership includes College representatives, members of the Regent House, and the Executive Directors of Development and Alumni Relations and CAm.

The Committee meets once of term and its duties and terms of reference are provided in Chapter I of the University's Statutes and Ordinances. Under Regulation 3 of the regulations for the JCD, the Committee's duties are:

  1. To provide a forum for the discussion between the University and the Colleges of strategic matters relating to alumni relations and philanthropic fundraising, including joint fundraising initiatives and campaigns, and policies relating to the management of regulatory, reputational or financial risks of benefactions and other gifts;
  2. To oversee structures to facilitate and support effective collaboration between the University and the Colleges in matters relating to alumni relations and philanthropy;
  3. To develop, discuss and monitor codes of practice and policies in support of its remit.
The Joint Committee may delegate any part of its duties to a sub-committee appointed by the Joint Committee on such terms as it sees fit.​

Exceptions to the Code of Practice
