Marcel Llavero Pasquina is a PhD student at the Plant Sciences Department. His research focuses on synthetic and molecular biology in microalgae. He has previously studied at the Universities of Uppsala, Vrije Amsterdam, Barcelona and Girona.
Aware of the history and responsibility of the University of Cambridge as an influential international actor, Marcel is an active member of various student campaigns pushing the University to take seriously the implications of our policy on a global scale, especially the impacts we have on the poorest and most marginalised communities.
In response to a University governance increasingly preoccupied with the expansion of revenue streams and collaboration with external private companies, Marcel stood for election to Council with the interest to place academic values and service to society at the core of the University’s affairs.
