Rachael Padman did her first degree in Electrical Engineering, at Monash University before undertaking a PhD in mm-wave astronomy and instrumentation in the Cavendish Laboratory. Following a number of Fellowships and PDRA posts, including a spell as Deputy Project Scientist for the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii, she was appointed a University Lecturer in 1998. Since 2005 she has been primarily involved in the administration of teaching, first in the Department of Physics and currently as Director of Education for the School of the Physical Sciences.
She has been a member of both Council and General Board since 2009, and served on, amongst others, the Reviews of Social Sciences and of IT Infrastructure, both of which made wide-ranging recommendations, most of which have since been put into effect. Her primary interest as a Council member is in Education and student related matters, but she also has a strong interest in staff career development and IT matters.
