Aastha Dahal is the elected President (Postgraduate) of the Cambridge Student Union. She holds a PhD in criminology. Her research, undertaken in Nepal, looked at how victims and perpetrators of domestic violence perceived police responses to their cases. Aastha has previously worked in Nepal’s criminal justice system and human rights sector as a lawyer, researcher and policy analyst. Aastha’s involvement in efforts to reform legal education in Nepal sparked her interest in higher education. She has previously worked for student rights at the University of Cambridge as the faculty representative at the Institute of Criminology , Vice President of the St Edmund’s College Combination Room and as an employee of the Graduate Union. She is committed to addressing the mental health and wellbeing of students as a structural issue affected by academic, financial and cultural factors.
